Dr Vijaykumar is the founder of SNEHA, India’s premier suicide prevention centre Her work has been instrumental to include suicide prevention in the National Mental Health Policy of India, and she currently is working to decriminalize suicide in the country. She was the first Indian woman to be awarded the fellowship of Royal College of Psychiatrists, United Kingdom and currently serves as Associate Professor at University of Melbourne and Adjunct Professor at University of Griffith. Currently, she also serves as a member of WHO's Network on suicide research and prevention and a member of the International Academy of Suicide Research.
